Gary Johnson, CPA, began his career with Grant Thornton International, an international CPA firm, in its Las Vegas office upon his graduation from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (“UNLV”) in 1978.  He has earned the designation of Construction Industry Technician through the Department of Construction Science and Management at Clemson University.

Gary advises closely-held businesses and their owners on strategies to minimize all forms of taxes and increase profits.  He has advised businesses with up to $1 billion in revenues and operations throughout the US and internationally.  He has also testified as an expert witness regarding complex income taxation and accounting matters.

Gary has served on the legislative committees of the Las Vegas Chapter of Associated General Contractors and the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants.  He also formerly served as President of the Robert R. Banks Foundation (a private charitable foundation), as Treasurer and Board Member of the National Speedboat and Water Ski Association, as Charter Member and President of Las Vegas West Rotary Club, as Chairman of Men’s Ministries at Canyon Ridge Christian Church, as Treasurer, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of the Las Vegas affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, and as Chairman and Board Member of Allinial Global, a world-wide association of independent public accounting firms with more than 100 members.  He was an Organizer of Bank of George in Las Vegas, and currently serves as a Member of its Board and Chair of its Audit Committee.  He also currently serves as a Trustee, Executive Committee Member and Audit Committee Chair of the UNLV Foundation.

Gary regularly speaks to accounting classes at UNLV about such topics as (i) career opportunities for accounting graduates, (ii) life as a staff accountant in a local CPA firm, (iii) interviewing techniques, and (iv) professional ethics for CPAs.  He also regularly guest lectures at the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering/Construction Management Program on using financial reporting to help manage a construction company.  In 2003, he was named Outstanding Alumnus by the UNLV accounting fraternity Beta Alpha Psi, and in 2013 was named Accounting Alumnus of the Year by the UNLV Lee Business School.

In his spare time Gary travels with his wife of 34 years, Sandy, to visit their two grown children who both live with their spouses in San Diego, enjoys a good bottle of wine, plays golf with buddies, and clears his mind with long rides on his Harley.
